It boasts a Green Policy that favors recycling at many levels, saving energy, The rooms are chic and spacious yet simple in their classy understated décor, where bright earth tones add a Zen ambiance that works explicitly well with the surrounding nature.

Food and wine: from fresh and local to healthy and organic

Ready to start your day on a healthy note? You’ll delight in the hotel’s Greek certified country breakfast buffet featuring home-style goodies, along with fresh local fruits, baked delicacies and organic products (keep in mind that the greater region, Argolida, is known for its orange groves and olive fields, along with local cheeses, wild herbs and traditional honey). Local eggs and dairy products, homemade jams and freshly squeezed orange juice ensure that breakfast is a royal experience, served outdoors during most months of the year.

Al fresco dining on the patio by the pool – the perfect setting for the variety of salads, tasty Mediterranean plates and healthy dishes on offer at the hotel’s restaurant. You’ll really enjoy lunch and dinner here, enriched by fresh organic ingredients, local extra virgin olive oil and fabulous local wines from notable wineries and vineyards that dot the Peloponnese.

Ecotourism options in Argolis, the Peloponnese

The region of Argolis or Argolida boasts a variety of nature-based attractions. The hotel works closely with outdoor activity providers so that you can explore the hiking trails, go on a mountain climbing excursion, embark on a diving adventure, see nature on horseback or try your hand at sailing by boat or catamaran in the Aegean Sea. Attesting to its ecotourism potential, the Perivoli is a member of Hikers Friendly Hotels (Silver level) and Bike Friendly Hotels, two esteemed networks that enhance its ecotourism profile. It is also worthy to note that the region has as much as 250 established climbing sites. Fabulous wine tours and olive oil tasting visits are also on the menu for those seeking culinary-based activities, while pottery-making seminars provide a great family experience.

A green policy for sustainable tourism

The Perivoli has adopted its own Green Policy that matches its surroundings and ecotourism offerings. Beyond the bioclimatic design and architecture that respects traditional Peloponnesian building practices, it has embraced a recycling policy that covers packaging, plastic, glass, kitchen oil, batteries and more. Thermal insulation and double-glazed windows help ensure energy savings, so do A+ energy rating appliances. LED lighting, combined with light sensors and timers, contribute to electricity savings, while the heating in winter is based on natural gas. Biological cleaning for wastewater is also appreciated in a property sit amidst nature, while tap restrictors and smart showers ensure that water is being conserved. Lastly, the Green Policy extends to the kitchen which highlights local and organic flavors and produce, working closely with local suppliers and embracing the area’s culinary heritage.

Argolida

Arguably the best known site in this area is Epidavros (Epidaurus), the magnificent rounded open-air theatre that's been around for 2000 years and still used today for cultural events. Equally important is the mother of all Mycenaean sites, none other than Mycenae itself (Mykinae or Mykines in Greek). Famous sites there include the Tomb of Agamemnon and the Lion Gate. Argolida's other main attraction is the nosubhealth.com city of Nafplio (Nauplion) which used to be the capital of Greece before it was moved to Athens. It's amazing charm and history is still strongly echoed through its Ottoman fountains, neoclassical architecture, magical mosques and towering Venetian castle – the Palamidi.

There is also the main tourist port with a good beach at Porto Heli, but this destination is best left to the mass tourists, particularly during the high season. Another touristy area is the pretty Tolo with its miniature twin islands off the coast. This area is particularly popular especially with Athenians, although further away from the tourist beaches and beyond the high season there are many nice spots to discover in the area.

Eco travellers are encouraged to discover the many hidden gems of the prefecture such as the village of Didima, representing a strange geographical phenomenon as part of the area had sunk into the ground, creating a large, round chasm. Churches and a narrow path have been built around the chasm, allowing visitors to descend via stairways.

The seaside island-like village of Koilada (pronounced Kilada) with the Fragki cave is well worth a visit, so is the beautiful Kosta beach which is ironically a 'quiet getaway' for the people of Spetses island across. The village of Ermioni, built on the ancient site of Hermione, is known for its naval heritage and temple of Poseidon, as well as the Taxiarchon church. If you want a warm, shallow yet very clean beach head to Nea Kios, built with character by Greek refuges who came from Turkey. On higher elevations lies the village of Karya some 700 metres on the mountain of Artemision (which is over 1700 meters). Hikers can continue up to the monastery of the Virgin Mary after a restful stop at the village. In Tirinthia there are huge boulders which many liken to the Gaelic dolmens. These were 'created' by the mythological Cyclops who supposedly hurled them around.
