Hike around Santorini’s volcano crater

Santorini’s famous volcano crater, known affectionately as the Caldera, offers breathtaking views that are arguably among the best in the whole world! The paths around the Caldera are hundreds of years old, dotted with traditional villages and cave-like homes that will transport you to another era.

We’ll begin the hike from Thira, the island’s capital, making our way through narrow alleyways among whitewashed homes to before we head out to the cliffsides and set our eyes on the blue expanse of the Aegean Sea. As we head further away from Thira and its adjacent neighborhoods of Firostefani and Imerovigli, you’ll increasingly notice how the island becomes quieter and the serenity of nature sets in.

The jewel in the crown is the hike’s final destination, the picturesque village of Oia known for its spectacular sunsets and old shipowners’ mansions. Once upon a time this little village was a bustling maritime town that used to be busy with mariners and traders. Today it is the secret escape of the wealthy who want to enjoy the more exclusive side of Santorini.

With the hike ending here, you can come back with our shuttle bus or start exploring on your own. Go down to the quiet little seaside port of Ammoudi with its seafood restaurant or admire the little art galleries, boutique hotels, fine local eateries, dainty coffee shops and blue-domed white churches of the upper town with its stunning views out to sea. Return by local bus back to your hotel or stay on by yourself to walk up the hill to Oia to explore this gorgeous little town, remain until sunset for a glass of wine or enjoy a bite at a cozy restaurant.

This tour is available every Friday from May 1st to October 31st starting at 9am.
