The island of Poros is so close to Athens geographically yet so far away in almost every other respect. With few foreign visitors and relying on Greek visitors for its livelihood, Poros is a gorgeously authentic Island in the Saronic Gulf with a stunning main town, rolling pine hills and clean beaches. It offers great food, boasts a small archeological museum, quenches you with its fresh lemonade and enchants you with its hospitable people.

From an ecotourism perspective it’s great for hiking, biking, kayaking and stand-up paddling (see tours below), in addition to offering diving excursions. Try these activities, head for an afternoon siesta, then explore the town’s alleyways and coast to find a favorite place to eat at. The island can be reached by car from Athens and then a few-minute ferry ride from the town of Galatas which is right across, or you can take a boat from Piraeus, either a high-speed flying dolphin or flying cat for an hour, or a the pleasant slow ferry that takes three hours and enjoy the view of passing islands and islets. You can’t go wrong with a visit to this island!
