Filoxenia Apartments, Adamas

What a lovely little gem of a place looking out to island's open fields and hiding quietly on the back streets of Milos' port town, Adamas. Central, quiet and spotlessly clean, this place offers a great stay not far from the port.

You wouldn't know it, but this very spacious and very well furnished property with marble bathrooms, top-notch construction, impressive finish, local architecture and kitchenette is barely a five-minute walk from the center of town through a side alley.

It is not surprising that Filoxenia has received top-not ratings online. Although this is not a hotel but a set of apartments, there's a wonderful cozy reception that acts as a meeting place for friends. The construction all looks brand new yet has managed to keep local elements such as wooden ceilings, Cycladic pathways, and the typical whitewashed look of houses on these islands. The larger suites are just perfect for families with a sitting and dining area, with some rooms sleeping up to four people quite comfortably. There are five two-room apartments and four large studios with satellite TV and air-conditioning.

The kitchenettes enable you to prepare great breakfasts or light meals, considering there are many little markets and bakeries not far off. The town is a pleasure to stroll through and there are a number of restaurants nearby. While the seaside part of Adamas offers shopping, nightlife and a host of busy coffee shops near the port where locals hang out, the old part of town on the hill boasts an impressive church, a jazz club and a pottery workshop that are worth a visit. There's even a decent beach within walking distance, perfect if you don't want to drive that day.

This little port town holds many culinary and cultural surprises, including the fascinating mining museum that reveals so much about how the island flourished. If you don't have a car Filoxenia is an easy walk from the port, and if you do you'll find it easy to park on the street in front of the property. Don't hesitate to book this place.

If you are looking for a destination that combines natural beauty, cultural heritage and sustainable practices, this volcanic island in the Aegean Sea will captivate you. Milos is a great island for ecotourism activities, as it offers a variety of options for exploring its stunning landscapes, rich biodiversity and ancient history. Here are some examples of what you can do in Milos:

  • Hike along the old mining trails and discover the colorful rocks and minerals that make Milos unique. You can also visit the Mining Museum and learn about the island's mining history and its contribution to the local economy and society.
  • Kayak around the coastline and admire the impressive rock formations, caves and arches that have been sculpted by the sea and the wind. You can also snorkel or dive in the crystal-clear waters and observe the marine life that thrives in the volcanic environment.
  • Join a guided tour of the archaeological sites and monuments that testify to the island's long and rich history. You can see the ancient theater, the catacombs, the Roman mosaics and of course, the famous Venus de Milo statue that was found here in 1820.
  • Visit the traditional villages and experience the authentic lifestyle and hospitality of the locals. You can taste the delicious local cuisine, based on fresh seafood, cheese, honey and herbs. You can also participate in cultural events and festivals that celebrate the island's folklore and traditions.
  • Head to Sarakiniko (a name of Arabic origin, related to the Saracens) and discover one of the most outstanding terrain on the island. The lunar-like topography with different rock formations descends into the sea, which works its artistic magic on them.
  • Visit the catacombs in the village of Tripti, enjoy activities such as diving, kayaking and hiking on the island's dirt roads. Nearby islands of Antimilos and Polyaigos fall under the Natura 2000 area, so does the coastal area of Western Milos and the wider region of Profitis Ilias.

If you have more time, you can also take a boat trip to nearby Kimolos, a small and charming island that is part of the same volcanic complex as Milos. Kimolos is a hidden gem that preserves its natural beauty and tranquility. You can enjoy its sandy beaches, its picturesque whitewashed houses and its friendly people. You can also visit its castle, its folk museum and its church of Panagia Odigitria, which houses a rare icon of the Virgin Mary.

Milos and Kimolos are ideal destinations for ecotourism lovers who want to discover the wonders of nature and culture in a responsible and respectful way. Don't miss this opportunity to experience these amazing islands for yourself!
