Another impressive gorge is Ridomo, which is great for hiking and nature walks.
Located in the Messinian part of Mani like the Viros Gorge at about 15 kilometres away from Kalamata, the gorge starts from where the Sadova stream meets the sea and goes up to Profitis Elias on Mount Taygetos. At some point it becomes quite narrow and around two meters only and 60 meters high, where there is a footpath between Kedro in Gaitses and Pigadia. Watch out for the traditional bridge of stone on the way.
It is worth noting that the maple tree of Sidirokastro is considered a preserved natural monument, so is the olive tree of Kalamata and the plane tree of Agios Floros. The forest containing evergreen wide-leaf trees on Sapientza island is also a preserved natural monument.
