Amfitriti

Amfitriti is simply gorgeous – certainly one of the top hotels on the island. Just sitting at the Veranda and having breakfast or watching the sun set is an outstanding experience. And then there's the breakfast, a fabulous buffet that Eleni herself prepares herself, filled with delicious cheese pies, jams, stuffed omelet, breads and freshly baked goodies. Staying at the Amfitriti is not just about being in a fine hotel but also about the human element that Eleni and her staff warmly offer.

In parallel, the rooms of the hotel have a fresh, island feel, and are tastefully decorated with a maritime motif. You can tell there's a lot of love that went into make these rooms look good. Best of all is that all the rooms look out to the bay of Serifos, its surrounding mountains and the blue Mediterranean. A ten-minute walk will take you into the port town with its lazy cafés and seaside restaurants with a lot of good local food to enjoy.

Despite having the beach just a five-minute walk away, there are also some fantastic beaches to hike to from the hotel. Hiking enthusiasts can also trek all the way to the upper town which in itself is a somewhat challenging yet fantastic experience. If you rest and take photos as you climb the hill, you won't even notice how far you've climbed. Once on top, the coffee shops in the square will relax you and the breathtaking views will astound you. If you prefer to stay close to the sea there's also a diving school nearby that can take you on an underwater island adventure.

The Amfitriti hotel comes highly recommended if you want to be within walking distance to the port town, close to the beaches, yet in a secluded corner of town to enjoy the elements of nature. There's an air about this property that reminds you of the finer hotels in Mykonos or Santorini yet in a more authentic setting without the many tourists and without the pretentiousness. Definitely one of the best choices in Serifos!

Serifos

Relatively less touristic than most other Cyclades, Serifos is a surprisingly green island with fertile valleys and a coastline full of bays and coves. Raw beauty and old traditions against wild mountains over 75 square kilometres and barely 1200 inhabitants make Serifos a natural hideaway for those who would rather avoid the tourist crowds.

The capital of the island, Hora, is built on a rock of sorts and dominated by a Venetian castle. Below and some five kilometres away is the coastal town of Livadi, protected from the north winds by the gulf. Wonder through the mills area at the entrance of the village, which features a main square with cafes and reflects the daily, laid-back life of the islanders.

Walk through the paths and dirt roads of Serifos to unveil its little sandy beaches and bays, observing the other islands around you as you make your way. In the distance the experienced traveller may differentiate the islands off the coast, those being Kimolos, Kythnos, Milos, Paros, Sifnos and Syros.

From an environmental perspective the island features special ecosystems underground, protected by legislation, in addition to the southern part of the island falling under the Natura 2000 network. The small islets around Serifos (Mikronisi, Serfiospoula and Vous) are all officially declared as regions of particular natural beauty.
