Within the village of Chrysovitsa, this intriguing monastery has been the focus of an interesting legend. According to tradition, the church had originally been built around a miracle-working icon which was allegedly crafted by Luke, one of Christ’s disciples. The icon has since travelled, supposedly visiting a number of churches and its whereabouts are said to be known by a select few within the monastic republic of Athos in northern Greece. While tales of the icon are still being disputed, the wealth of the monastery is undeniable. The church opened and financed the village school of Chrysovitsa as well as number of public works in the past.
