Nisista

Kayak, canoe, horse-ride, hike, mountain bike or even paraglide during your stay at this cozy, stone-built guesthouse. The Nisista Guesthouse lies in the beautiful village of Rodavgi within the Tzoumerka mountain range. Don’t be fooled though, you can still reach the beaches of Preveza, Koronisa and Menidi in relatively little time, as well as the gorgeous lake of Ioannina.

Arta

The Amvrakikos, with its 20 lagoons and numerous wetlands, is fed by the Arachthos and Louros rivers. It is home to water buffaloes that graze by the marshes, eagles flying overhead and even a colorful variety of snakes that would make herpetologists rejoice.

When it comes to ecotourism, visitors will definitely love all the mountain sports opportunities in Tzoumerka (ideal for mountain climbing and hiking), as well as Gavrovo mountain near Kanalia and around the Arachthos river which is great for rafting and kayaking. Great hikes include the one from Melissourgi to Afti Theodoriannon with green pastures and waterfalls, from Kattaraktis to Agnanta with thick forests and gushing springs, from Bourgareli to Kypseli with impressive oak trees, and from Gavrogo forest to Skoularikia with stunning landscapes. You must also go see the Plaka bridge (Gefiri Plakas) which is a centuries-old architectural wonder, as well as picturesque lake Pournari, formed by hydroelectric dam built on the river.

For watersports lovers, Koronisia, an islet connected by a land bridge that sits smack in the middle of the Amvrakikos gulf, offers fabulous opportunities to windsurf and kitesurf. Hike to the top of Xerovouni mountain from the attractive village of Rodavgi, then dine in one of the village’s local eateries. This is just a snapshot of what you can do in the greater region of Arta, whose nature is well known by Greek outdoor lovers but practically unknown to the western world. Book a hotel, take a few tours, eat some of the local food, and you’ll remember Arta for life!
