Eos Traditional Guesthouse

As soon as you set your eyes on this gorgeously attractive little guesthouse, you’re going to fall in love with it. Expect superb local breakfasts, a great nearby beach, stunning nature all around and a traditional village.

Eos, the goddess of dawn, emerged from the sea with her rosy fingers or hands to open heaven’s gates so that the sun would rise. You’ll definitely understand her beauty when you wake up at the Eos Guesthouse.

This traditionally built property will impress you with its traditional architecture and stone construction. Lying in the idyllic village of Skiti on the northern side of Kissavos mountain, in Larissa’s Agia region, the property is a short hop from the Aegean shore, Lake Karla, Mount Mavrovouni, and the royal estates of Polidendri forest. Interestingly, the Byzantines chose the village of Skiti as a place to communicate with God, and this spiritual peacefulness still reigns supreme here.

There are nine rooms overall in this little guesthouse, set in a captivating garden with a modest swimming pool. You’ll love having your breakfast in full view of the Aegean, enjoying as well all the modern comforts such as Wifi and a games section.

An abundance of nearby activities and attractions

There’s so much to see and do in nature in this region of Greece. Take leisurely hikes or grab one of the guesthouse’s bikes to explore the paths of the village and all the way to the hills around the property (there are also hiking and biking organizations that will take you on amazing tours). Also noteworthy is the impressive Alamanos stone bridge built in 1858 and surrounded by exquisite nature, just a few minutes by car from the guesthouse.

Delight in the unlimited number of strawberry trees (Arbutus Unedo – nothing to do with strawberries) whose fruit makes deliciously tangy jam. Head to the unexplored Kissavos Mountain (protected area under Natura 2000), the majestic Mount Mavrovouni, the traditional village of Metaxohori in Agia and sandy shores of the nearby beaches of Agiokampos and Velikas. Do stop by the village of Ano Sotiria for its traditional coffee shops and eateries.

Drive to Lake Karla to do some real quality birdwatching in an area that’s not known by tourists, stopping for a coffee at the little village of Kanalia where there’s also a museum about the lake (call in advance). Continue to the village of Kerasia to visit the Orchid Center of North Pelion.

A budding green philosophy

The management of Eos is a firm believer in ecotourism and sustainable tourism. It even built the whole guesthouse with local materials using traditional building methods and ideas. Solar water heating, energy-efficient lighting, local plants in the garden, traditional products and recipes from the area, eco-friendly cleaning materials, and natural Greek toiletries are all part of their philosophy. This is one unknown region that will astound you with its unspoiled nature and very varied landscapes (sea, mountain, lake, wetland, plains, forests…) wherever you go.

Lake Karla & Mavrovouni

There's an impressive success story surrounding Lake Karla, one about ecological progress, hope and sustainability that can stand as a model for many areas of the world. A few decades ago in the 1960s, fuelled by a misguided vision to increase farmland, the authorities emptied ancient Lake Karla and caused major damage to an ecosystem that was thousands of years old. Wetlands perished and biodiversity suffered, taking with them the livelihood of whole communities as well. The mythical Lake Voeveis-Karla – once described as a paradise where they Argonauts built their kingdom – now lay barren.
