We really, really love ecotourism-friendly family hotels such as this one that are so authentically Greek in every way, warm hospitality included. The family will dine and wine you, but also let you participate in a cooking class, go on an orchid observation mission, or take you on a leisurely hike. Historic walks and stretching by the sea are also part of their program, so are evening get-togethers against a backdrop of good food and wine.
The owners don’t believe in air conditioning but in mild sea breezes instead, they proudly don’t install Jacuzzis but prefer swimming in the sea, and are friendly to the handful of dogs and cats that have adopted the property as their home too. Reservations are not automatic but made by email or by phone, and it’s more than likely that you’ll make new friends here. This may not be a “certified green hotel” but it’s so much more eco-friendly and community friendly than many of the supposedly certified ones we’ve seen. If you’re the relaxed type who prefers authenticity and warm-hearted people over luxury, and if you possess a sense of adventure and wanderlust, book this place now.
