The island of Corfu is blessed with a warm Mediterranean climate in Summer and a wet Ionian Winter, giving its grape varieties a distinct flavor. The famous Ancient Greek poet Home boasted about the wines of Corfu in the Odyssey, a fact which hasn’t been lost on Ambelonas Corfu. The quaint vineyard-meets-kitchen haven in the center of the island offers visitors a chance to sample wines made from two local grape varieties, namely the red Skopelitiko grape and the white Kakotrigis grape.
The tour begins with a refreshing welcome gesture that features fresh homemade lemonade or iced herbal tea, followed by an engaging overview of this idyllic vineyard and olive groves. This includes production secrets and age-old methods that are mixed with a dose of love to great superb wines and products.
Needless to say, the exciting part is the food and wine tasting, which pairs the wines mentioned above with a whole buffet of local products in season. From vegan smoked eggplant salad and local fruit mustard to Corfiot salami and onion pate with goat cheese, your palate will be delighted by the pairings and tastings that also feature local olives, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, quality feta cheese and wholegrain bread. Greek summer produce such as cucumber and tomato add a fresh touch, while preserved fruit sweets such as the local kumquat or wild figs with a hint of local geraniums will open up a world of Levantine flavors.
