British-German travel and tourism giant TUI has had a relatively long history of over 20 years in tying environmental sustainability with tourism. In particular, the TUI Environmental Champion award has year after year honored hotels that are green. In 2019, 26 hotels in Crete, Kos, the Peloponnese and Rhodes earned this green accolade. While TUI specializes in tourism for groups and package tours involving larger hotels, its requirements for accommodating its clients in greener hotels and resorts has helped make the industry so much more eco-friendly. Its efforts have not gone unnoticed by us here at Ecotourism-Greece.
