The word “boroume” means “we can!” in Greek. The non-profit organization dubbed Boroume operates a “saving and offering food” program that gives perfectly good leftover food to the most needy parts of society. This reflects a general philosophy of the Greek people who overwhelmingly revere food and avoid throwing it away. We’re delighted that more and more hotels are embarking on this initiative to distribute food to those who need it the most. While tourism businesses should make an effort to reduce overproduction of food, this is not always an easy task in a high-tourism destination such as Greece, making Boroume an excellent second option to limit waste and conserve food.
