Aleka’s House is a gem in the mountainous forests of Pelion, yet only minutes away from the sea. Plane, oak, chestnut, pine and apple trees decorate the area around the traditional guesthouse built in local architectural style that’s based on wood and stone.
Amazing eco-activities all year round
Swimming in summer, biking in fall, skiing in winter and hiking in spring are just some of the activities that Pelion offers, all very close to the property. The marriage of mountain and sea opens up a world of possibilities, from collecting herbs and meditating in nature. After all, mythology holds that the Olympian gods considered Pelion as their summer residents, while the land’s cobblestone footpaths known as “kalderimia” were enjoyed by the likes of nymphs, demigods, centaurs, giants and much more.
More precisely, summer is just perfect for swimming, sea kayaking, scuba diving, mountain biking and hiking in shady mountain forests. Also noteworthy are the sea cruises in the Pegasitic gulf that take you to the Sporades islands in an authentic eco-friendly boat. Winter is ideal for skiing and snowboarding in nearby Hania in full view of the sea! You can also enjoy canyoning in Fakistra, Milopotamos, Kentavros and Galanorema under the guidance of certified experts all year round. The thick biodiverse vegetation and crystal waters add an enchanting aura to any outdoor experience. Make sure to ask the owners at Aleka’s House to set you up with the right activity providers!
On the road to going green…
We’re happy to know that the owners at Aleka’s House separate and recycle waste. Leftovers are fed to the animals, while fruit and vegetable remains are composted. Even leftover coffee grinds are used as natural fertilizer, while the grounds are sprayed only with homemade natural pesticide (Pelion olive oil soap mixed with hot pepper). On another note, as local architecture laws don’t allow solar panels for hot water, the property cuts on heating costs by heating with liquified natural gas rather than the more costly and more polluting petrol. The bioclimatic orientation of the building, along with double-glazed windows and lobby fireplace in winter all contribute to lowering energy costs. Lastly, it’s great that the property is pet friendly and open to nature’s creatures beyond man, so do bring your furry friends along!
