Adonis Hotel

Adonis Hotel

Naxos is a beautiful and very eclectic island that boasts many authentic villages, hiking paths and secluded spots for ecotourism and agrotourism. One of the most outstanding properties in this respect is the Adonis Hotel in Apollonas.

If you want to experience life on a Mediterranean island just like how the locals live, you should definitely put this place in your travel plans. This little hotel of 23 whitewashed rooms with blue doors and windows is set in a garden full of fruit trees and vegetable patches. While it offers all the necessary comforts such as air conditioning, fridge and wireless internet in all rooms, its real charms lie in the hospitality, garden and the healthy ecological philosophy of the owner, Mr. Stamatis Andris.

Swim, fish, hike and discover…

Apart from the beach of Apollonas which is just 50 meters away, guests here have fallen in love with the choice of activities such as fishing and hiking. Only 2.5 km away from Apollonas lies a hiking path that takes you to Koronida, the highest village in all the Cyclades islands and one of the most traditional villages of Naxos.

Much closer is the largest male statue or Kouros in Greece, dedicated to Dionysus god of wine yet too big to complete, measuring at over 10 meters in height. Another archeological marvel from more recent times is the ancient castle on Mount Kalogeros not far from the village (the hiking path that takes you there is just a 10-minute walk from the hotel).

The best of Cycladic gastronomy

Beyond the fascinating landscape and history of this magical part of the island there is a surprisingly sophisticated gastronomic side that every visitor must discover. Naxos is known for its good food, and the hotel’s restaurant prepares delicious local recipes made with organic produce right from the property’s own garden. Add fresh fish and wash it all down with hearty local wine or ‘raki’ spirit, then finish with homemade fruit preserves and a flavorful liqueur.

To appreciate the full splendor of how people live from their gardens and in them, take a walk around Apollonas and admire the many gardens that bear their own fruits, vegetables and flowering plants. A visit to the natural spring of the area to see from where people water their gardens and farmers water their fields is also recommended.

Lastly, for a more cultural discovery of Naxos you can learn how to dance some of the local dances or even take Greek language lessons. Mr. Andris will be more than happy to help you with either request.

Beyond Apollonas

With a small car you can explore all the beauty of this eclectic island. Ask your host for the best beaches around Naxos, from the quiet to the cosmopolitan. Visit different traditional and authentic villages inland, such as Halki and Apiranthos. The island boasts amazing ancient, byzantine and Venetian sites, as well as many fascinating towers, monasteries and caves. Mountain climbing can be enjoyed on Mount Zas, the highest in the Cyclades, as well as on many others. Birdwatching, watersports, biking and hiking are also on the menu of ecotourism activities in Naxos. If you want to go out of Naxos Town, the Adonis Hotel is truly an ideal spot to both relax and bring out the adventurer in you.
