Rogovos Monastery

This monastery was first commissioned by the sister of the then Byzantine emperor, Romanos III, during the mid 11th century. During the following centuries, the monastery became considerably wealthy and at one point, the residents of Tselepovo (near where the monastery is located) debated whether or not to turn it into a university. Though it never became a centre for higher learning, the monastery still contains an impressive library.
