Noteworthy churches near Lamia

Around Lamia, the church of Agios Loukas on the hill by the same name lies in the woods. It offers a splendid view of the gulf below. Another important church is Panagia Archntiki (meaning the Noble Madonna) which dates from the 18th century. It boasts frescoes from the Old Testament that are worth gazing at.

Our Lady Madonna or Panagia Despina is represented by a three-winged basilica, built where another more ancient church used to exist. An extraordinary wooden iconostasis from the 18th century awaits visitors there. Worthy of a visit as well is the Convent of Panagia Eginitisa, situated on the rolling slopes of Mount Othris. It is supposed to have a miraculous icon for the Madonna.
