One of the oldest churches throughout the Ioannina region is this large monastery outside the village of Romanos, first built in 1113. The church stands on a site where artefacts dating back to prehistoric times have been found, as well as an ancient cemetery. It’s dedicated to the transfiguration of Christ and contains an abbey, monk’s cells and a bell tower reaching three storeys.
