Kos is extremely proud of its wine-making heritage, which dates back to Ancient Greece and well before 500 BC. The soil on the island is perfect for vines, and a number of local wines have won international awards. Hippocrates, a native of Kos and the father of Western medicine, often expounded the health benefits of responsible drinking.
