Swimming in Serres

Compared to other regions of Greece, Serres has very little coastline, but what it lacks in seaside areas, it makes up for in cold fresh water streams straight from the mountains.

Swimming, however, is frowned upon in the Kerkini wetland and one might be better off cooling off in one of the tributaries of the Strymonas river further south. What beaches there are, where the river empties into the Aegean, are overdeveloped and not well cared for. There is a major holiday resort at Nea Kerdilia, or Kerdylia: Avoid at all cost in high season.
