Pottery in Karditsa

Fanari is a lovely traditional village in the municipality of Ithomi only 15 km northwest of Karditsa, lying on a forested hill 450 meters above sea level. The village once had as many as 80 ceramic workshops and craftsmen, giving the village its nickname of 'Tsoukalades' (potters).

Today there is only one villager, Theodoros Vassilis, practicing this trade, so visits to this area are recommended to encourage this dying trade. The outstanding view from the village towards Trikala and the plain of Karditsa is also worthy of mention.
