Considered the first and only institution for social therapy intended for handicapped adults, Estia Agios Nikolaos engages its residents in workshops to produce ceramics, traditional Greek embroidery, decorative jewellery, and wooden toys. Visitors to Galaxidi are encouraged to pass by the centre and visit the workshop and showroom where they can choose artisanal and handcrafted items. All proceeds go for maintaining the centre.
The tradition of monasteries continues in modern times with the recent construction of this magnificent masterpiece, the monastery of Agios Augustinos and Agios Serafim of Sarof, in the village of Trikorfo. It boasts the largest belfry in the world, with 60 bells and 400 gongs ringing loud and captivating listeners.
