On a mountaintop that's 1350 meters above sea level, the Achaiko Chorio (which means Achaian Village) lies in the heart of the region of Achaia, representing the perfect hub for discovering this stunningly gorgeous region. The 'village' is surrounded by mountains, nature, farm animals and hiking paths, offering all modern comforts and a fantastic local breakfast.

Tastes of tradition…

Begin your day with a breakfast full of local ingredients right from the Achaiko Chorio's very own farm. Fresh cow's milk, eggs from the chicken coop, homemade cheese and yogurt, homemade ham, hot puffy dough balls (loukoumades) dribbled with honey, and freshly squeezed orange juice from the farm's oranges will greet every morning. The breakfast buffet also has a panoply of Greek products and specialties from around the region, so prepare yourself for a true Greek breakfast experience.

Most of the ingredients in the kitchen come from their very own farm, supplemented by local olive oil, fresh meat and others. You'll get a chance to taste homemade products such as pasta and 'trahana' (a thick, hearty soup) made with the farm's milk and eggs.

Chalets and stone houses

Generous one-room wood chalets and gorgeous multi-level stone houses – in perfect harmony with the environment – will impress you with their traditional design and comforts. The country-style wood chalets fit up to 8 people in one large space, with two of these chalets offering a cozy loft for kids. If you want more space opt for the stone houses which have a more private room and a second bathroom on the second floor. The place is ideal for a large family or a group of friends, naturally encouraging bonds and friendships among those staying there.

Outdoor activities at their best…

You're going to revel in this area which falls in Europe's Natura 2000 network of protected natural sites, and is one of the rare places in the region that wasn't affected by the devastating 2007 forest fires. To begin with, Achaiko Chorio falls on the main route to the Klokos mountaintop at an altitude of 1776 meters, making it perfect for hiking and trekking. It's also an amazing place to live the true life of the Greek countryside if you want, from milking cows and collecting fresh eggs to feeding farm animals and herding them together.

Pick wild greens and herbs from the fields, collect walnuts and prepare delicious local dishes. The good thing is that kids can run safely and freely all over the farm, and tend to love helping the family on the farm to herd the animals. Interestingly, during certain times of the year the family organizes activities such as cherry picking and olive picking, immersing you in a real Greek country experience.

Beyond agrotourism, Achaiko Chorio offers activities such as horseback riding, archery, mountain climbing, rappelling, mountain biking, and zip-line or flying fox which is popular with children. Stargazing and astronomy have also gathered ground here due to the high elevation and distance of the property from urban areas. In summer (June-July-August), as a member of the official Greek camping society for children, the property opens its doors to young campers, immersing them in a world of nature and educational activity. Lastly, it is worth noting that the whole region provides a stunning backdrop for photography enthusiasts so take your best camera with you and get ready for a fascinating mountain adventure.
