There are so many villages that fall into this category, but a must for an eco-stay, would be visiting Zaros, A beautifil village, superbly maintained, with traditional crafts made and for sale here. Archanes is another stunning village, though more of a small town, really. Both of these places have accommodation, though in Archanes it's at a premium, unless you book for a week or longer. The village of Arolithos, a few KMs west of Herakleion, is the best place to see arts and crafts, such as basket-making and weaving, and if you book in advance, you can join-in these activities, too (see Weaving section). Finally, an outdoor museum can be found in Chersonissos, which mimics a traditional Cretan village of the past (and in a number of cases, the present), and is well worth visiting (see Museums for more).
