The rocky mountains and fir-tree forests (Abies Cephalonica) of the National Park of Parnassos, which is shared between the prefectures of Fokida and Viotia, offers an amazing habitat for birds. Among the prime species you would are the Black Woodpecker, Cretzschmar's Bunting, Rock Nuthatch, Rock Partridge and Rock Thrush.
Many of the birds are attracted to the cool, dry summer and rainy fall and fresh spring climate. Other birds to see are the Alpine Chough, Alpine Swift, Black Woodpecker, Collared Flycatcher, Golden Eagle, Hoopoe, Ortan Bunting, Pallid Swift, Red-footed Falcon and Red-rumped Swallow among others. The Lesser Kestrel also breeds in the area.
